The Pine River Valley Library has been named best small library in the United States... and they are doing a great job living up to that title.
The newest thing they have started is the ZAP science club... it's actually a group for adults to get together and built science kits for the kids. Each month, the design and assemble and new build-it-yourself science kits that can be picked up at the library anytime during the month.
This month's project was a homemade hovercraft. Each child got a bag with a CD, a balloon and a water bottle lid ( the squeeze bottle kind). We hot glued the water bottle lid to the CD and then blew up the balloons and attached them to the lid. When the squeeze part of the lid gets opened, the air rushes it through the home in the middle of the CD, causing it to hover just slightly over the surface of the table. (Think air hockey...)
The kids enjoyed the project and passed their balloons around and across the table for quite a while. (And of course.... I took pictures!)
