Ten Minutes

How often do we spend ten minutes doing something frivolous? Ten minutes reading through junk mail, ten minutes looking for something that we didn’t put away, or ten minutes doing something that we won’t remember in an hour.

It’s only ten minutes right? It won’t make a difference, it’s just ten minutes. But what if you added that time up and looked at it as the time wasted in a day, a week, or a year? It’s actually kind of a sobering thought.

There are 144 increments of ten minutes in each day. Ten minutes happens 1008 times each week, and 52560 times each year.

What could we get done in a day if we used ten of those wasted minutes to do something productive? What would change in our lives if we took that wasted time and applied it to doing something that needs to be done… even just the laundry, the dishes, the dusting? What if we took one of those 144 ten minute increments and wrote a get well card to someone in the hospital, or called a friend who was feeling down, or visited an elderly neighbor? What if we used one of those 144 ten minute increments in pray earnestly for a loved one’s salvation, for God to work in our lives or for revival in our country.

How would our homes change, our lives, or the lives of our loved ones? How would our world change if we each took ten minutes a day to do something good. Not something extraordinary or something incredible, just something simple, something that will make a small difference. I expect those small differences would add up to be big changes.

Here is a challenge to myself, and to any others who want to partake: Take back ten wasted minutes and do something good with them. Make a difference… in your life, in the life of another, or in the light of eternity.

 Let me know what happens.

  1. Ha ha. Steve always used to break down time periods like that. Do you remember? Steve would break down to the seconds in each time and mom would break down to the pennies in each meal. Now you and I do both. Funny the things that transfer without you even noticing. Love ya sister.
