This easy recipe is quickly becoming a favorite at our house. Neither Eric or I really knew what dumplings were... until I ran into this recipe and tried them out. Now we eat them almost every time we have soup. They are cheap, easy, don't require planning, and make soup into a very substantial meal.
Basic Dumplings
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon seasoning
1 Tbsp melted shortening
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c milk
- Mix flour, baking powder, salt and seasoning together.
- Add melted shortening, egg and milk and mix well.
- Drop dumplings one at a time into simmering broth.
- Cover and cook on high for 10-15 minutes or until dumplings are light and thoroughly cooked.
