Welcome Home
Meet the new addition. These beautiful, bright eyed little babies are now living in the brooder box in my livingroom. They are mutts... and I like them! (Part Buff Brahma, part Jersey Giant and possibly part something else)
These are the babies that were hatched in secret and paraded to an unexpected fate by the mama hen. And now, I get to be Mama Hen.
They'll live a life of luxury for a while here in the house and in a month or so, I'll put them into their very own yard/coop. Not quite sure if we will build one just for them, or if we will rebuild the big chicken yard, but one way or another they will head outside. And then, come fall when they are big enough to hold their own with the big chickens, they will all join forces. These little guys bring our chicken count up to 33. There will no doubt be some roosters here that won't make it through the winter (or at the latest, the spring) but there will also be some hens that will hopefully be good layers and maybe even one or two that will be good broody hens and can hatch out their own babies next spring.
Anyhow, if you missed seeing the first batch of babies... you should come over! These guys are great and for now they are still cute little fluff balls. But they grow fast! And pretty soon, they'll lose that fluff and turn into chickens.

AW! I was actually tempted to day to let THEIR MOMMA WHO IS BROODY AGAIN hatch some more! Haha! Such a great blessing those babies have become! Thanks for taking them in!
